Identity Theft - What you should know

Identity theft is growing in Canada and Identity theft can be a small as using a stolen debit or credit card to the full assumption of a persons life. Loans can be taken out, new credit cards applied for, houses can be bought and sometimes even your own house can be sold.

A persons identity, especially one with no criminal record and a good credit history are wanted by organized crime to allow them access to money and to change to a new clean identify when their old one becomes too well know. Canadian Central sat on the ID Theft committee set up by the government to try to make it easier for victims of ID theft to regain their credit histories and get rid of loans, mortgages or credit cards that may have been taken out in their name.

A link to the kits developed from this group that are now generally accepted for use in building a single source of information by a victim that will be accepted by all affected service or monetary entities that may also have been affected.

There are two kits, one for individuals of ID Theft and one for businesses to know what to do when someone is claiming ID Theft for an amount owed to them.
