PenFinancial Student Awards Program
Up to
$1,500 in bursary funding will be awarded annually to qualified
applicants that have the greatest financial
need. The bursary policy shall be reviewed every “even” year
by the Level 2 Development Committee. Should the Committee
believe a change to the policy is required, a recommendation
will be made and provided to the Board of Directors for
their consideration.
This bursary will be divided equally ($750 each) between
two student. Applicants shall be assessed on the basis
of eligibility, financial need, academics and demonstrated
community involvement. Applicants will only be eligible
to receive one award in a twelve-month period. All applicants
will be notified by mail approximately 6 weeks after the
deadline date whether or not they have been successful
with their application.
Conditions for Awarding Bursaries
A student may be eligible for a
bursary under the program if he/she:
- Is a member of or dependent
of a member of the credit union
for at least one year prior to making application.
Students related to credit union staff, committee or
board are not
eligible to take part in this awards program.
- Is currently
or has been accepted as a duly registered full-time
student at an accredited university or college.
- Has a minimum cumulative
grade point average of C (65%) in his/her academic
studies for the last academic year.
- Is involved in the community
through some sort of volunteerism and/or cooperative
activity.
Supporting Documents
The
application consists of four parts:
- Official transcripts - Official high school or university/college transcripts
of the previous academic records.
- Two letters of reference - Two confidential letters of reference from persons
not related to the applicant.
- A curriculum vitae (or resume) - should include a summary of the applicants academic
achievements, involvement in/contribution
to the community as well as work and any other experiences.
- The
completed application form – incomplete
or late applications will not be considered.
Assessment
As applications are received, they are reviewed
by marketing & business
development staff who will ensure the applicants eligibility
as stated in this policy. Name, age and any other identifying
information is removed from the application and the applicant
is given a numerical identifier. Applications are then
considered by the Bursary Selection Committee. The Committee
is made up of 5 members of the credit union Level 2 Development
Committee – to be determined each year at their January
meeting. The applications shall be judged on the basis
of financial need and completed material contained on the
attached application form. All information shall remain
confidential. The Bursary Selection Committee is NOT given
name and age information of the applicants prior to the
review process.
Notice of Bursary Availability and Application
Applications
will be made available on-line and distributed through
all branches year-round. Announcement of bursary
availability will be featured on-line in February each
year and placed as a message on member year-end statements. Award
The Bursary Selection Committee will review applications
during June of each year. Successful candidates will
be chosen by July and notified in August. Successful
candidates must agree to participate in a photo opportunity.
The photo may be used on-line and for credit union
marketing purposes as well in local newspapers. Deadline
The completed application
form and all supporting documents
must be received on or before the First Monday in
May. Applications can be dropped off at any credit
union branch location or mailed to the Corporate Office:
