The
Entrepreneurial Mind
For decades researchers have been trying
to figure out what makes entrepreneurs tick and what it
takes to build a successful business. Steve Courson, Commercial
Credit Manager at PenFinancial Credit Union has the answer.
“We’re entrepreneurial too, so we know very
well what drives small business”. Courson adds, “Entrepreneurs
have an extremely high need to achieve, they have a strong
urge to build, are opportunistic and seldom submit to authority
or the status quo”.
Research supports this notion as more than
50 separate studies have found five common characteristics
that all entrepreneurs share:
Confident and multi-skilled – Entrepreneurs
trust their decisions and have the confidence needed to
comfortably navigate through unchartered waters. They also
wear many different hats; from product development, operations,
marketing and sales, to taking out the trash.
- The “calculated” risk-taker
– Success comes with taking measured risks. An entrepreneur
isn’t afraid to act or they risk falling behind
the competition, but they do their homework first.
- Results-oriented – Entrepreneurs
have a higher need for achievement than non-entrepreneurs.
They derive immense pleasure from setting goals and achieving
them.
- Extreme commitment – Entrepreneurs
pour their blood, sweat and tears into their business.
It takes personal sacrifice and dedication to get their
business off the ground and to keep it growing.
- Born leaders – An entrepreneur must
be able to lead employees. They make sure employees are
on task, keep their spirits up, have integrity and never
stop encouraging them to excel.
So this is you, you are an entrepreneur. You
have the drive and the ideas but now you need the capital
to grow. That’s where many business owners have trouble
and that’s where Steve Courson says PenFinancial Credit
Union differentiates itself.
“We get it. We’re small, flexible
and much more entrepreneurial—just like our clients.
We speak the same language and they like that. We’re
local and our goal is to help serve the entrepreneurs that
drive our local economy. We know that they drive our business
and ultimately their success is our success. And in an era
where big banks and big business seem to have their sights
overseas, Niagara’s businesses need to find a local
banking partner that will help them achieve. That’s
the role PenFinancial wants to play and that’s where
we can help” says Courson.
