Our Truly Local Commitment Pledge

Our Truly Local Commitment is the heart and soul of PenFi's philosophy, where we believe the prosperity of our Members and our community go hand in hand. We are always looking to use business as a force for good. To work together. To strengthen communities. As a values-driven financial co-operative, we work to help our Members and communities thrive.

Our Truly Local Commitment is ingrained in everything we do, which is why we commit to investing a portion of our profits back into Niagara and Haldimand communities. We hold ourselves to an uncompromising standard of giving back, whether it’s through our B Corp certification, socially responsible investing philosophy, or donating the Bob Watson Community Room space to local not-for-profits. We are also proud to be the only financial institution in Niagara to be recognized as a Living Wage Employer by the Ontario Living Wage Network.

Community minded, and we mean it

Supporting the community should mean much more than offering financial support. Through volunteerism, education and sharing our expertise, we truly support the communities where we live and work.

Different where it counts

PenFinancial Credit Union offers the same services as banks, but we do it with a different set of values. We reinvest in our local community by providing loans and mortgages to your friends and neighbours, and we support local organizations and events. Together we keep our communities strong and sustainable.

Bankers, but also human

Financial institutions aren’t known for their heart. But PenFinancial is. We aren’t driven by commissions, but we are driven by your financial success. If we can have a little bit of fun along the way, then why not!

Through our Truly Local Ambassador program, all employees are encouraged to get involved by volunteering time with local community organizations. Our staff choose the causes that are most meaningful for them, and PenFinancial makes a financial contribution to that charity on the employee’s behalf.

A Living Wage is our minimum wage.

At PenFinancial, a living wage is our minimum wage. We’re proud to pay all of our employees a living wage, which is set and reviewed annually by the Ontario Living Wage Network. This is just another way we help our 100 truly local employees and their communities thrive.  While we’re the only financial institution in Niagara to achieve this, we are part of a growing list of businesses in the region who have become living wage employers.

Together we get what we give.

Through collaborative work with local charities and not-for-profits, we're addressing challenges like poverty, affordable housing and mental health issues.

Giving Back

Help end poverty feet first

More than 75,000 people in Niagara live on or below the poverty line. More than a third of those people are children. Our partner, Socks for Change, provides warm, quality wool socks and winter accessories to those in need in Niagara and Haldimand.

Annually, the goal is to raise enough donations to purchase 35,000 pairs of socks for those in need.

The Bob Watson Community Room

Giving back to the communities we serve is important to us – and that extends beyond banking. So, when we built our Fourth Avenue Branch in St. Catharines, we saw it as an opportunity create the Bob Watson Community Room. It’s a welcoming meeting space that not-for-profit organizations and community groups from throughout Niagara Region and Haldimand County can use at no cost.
