PenFinancial is excited to announce that we have become an official partner of the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games — where we will serve as co-sponsor to the Catch The Spirit and Mascot programs, along with sponsoring a leg of the Torch Relay.
We know the importance of addressing our environmental impact. We’re reducing the carbon emissions footprint of our operations and supporting renewable energy in Canada by choosing green electricity and green natural gas for all PenFinancial locations through our partnership with Bullfrog Power, a Spark Power company.
Across Canada, Bullfrog’s green electricity comes from a blend of wind and low-impact hydro power sourced from new Canadian renewable energy facilities. Bullfrog’s green natural gas is sourced from methane-capture projects situated at various Canadian landfills, wastewater treatment facilities and anaerobic digestion sites.
PenFinancial Credit Union is proud to be part of the global movement of Certified B Corporations® who use business as a force for good, reinforcing our Truly Local Commitment to Niagara. The certification requires that we meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.
As a Certified B Corp we believe there is a better way to do business – one that is better for workers, communities and the environment.
Out of 4,000 Certified B Corporations worldwide, we are among the top 5% B Corps
in the Governance impact area assessed as part of the certification process! We are proud to be one of the Best For The World™ for 2021.
At PenFinancial, a living wage is our minimum wage. We’re proud to pay all of our employees a living wage, which is set and reviewed annually by the Ontario Living Wage Network. This is just another way we help our 100 truly local employees and their communities thrive. While we were the first financial institution in Niagara to achieve this, we are part of a growing list of businesses in the region who have become living wage employers.
Investment portfolios come in a lot of different shapes and sizes, but socially responsible investments offer an option where your values and your portfolio can align, without sacrificing returns. No one should have to choose between building wealth and building a better world.
When it comes to responsible investing, we walk the talk. Every PenFinancial Advisor is a certified Responsible Investment Specialist, and we’re here to help you build wealth doing the right thing.
By giving back a generous portion of our pre-tax profits through our TLC investment program, PenFinancial is making a Truly Local Commitment to help improve lives and strengthen communities. Through collaborative work with local charities and not-for-profits, we're addressing challenges like poverty, affordable housing and mental health issues.
More than 75,000 people in Niagara live on or below the poverty line. More than a third of those people are children. Our partner, Socks for Change, provides warm, quality wool socks and winter accessories to those in need in Niagara and Haldimand.
Annually, the goal is to raise enough donations to purchase 35,000 pairs of socks for those in need.
Giving back to the communities we serve is important to us – and that extends beyond banking. So, when we built our Fourth Avenue Branch in St. Catharines, we saw it as an opportunity create the Bob Watson Community Room. It’s a welcoming meeting space that not-for-profit organizations and community groups from throughout Niagara Region and Haldimand County can use at no cost.
This is our commitment to each other.
